KEA INFORMATION
Kea belongs administratively in the prefecture of Kyklades and along with Kythnos and Makronisos constitute the provence of Kea. It is located very close to Athens since it is only one hour far away from Lavrio by ship. It has an area of 132 s.km. and its surface is quite intense.

On the NW side the port of Korissias is located, which is one of the biggest natural protective harbors of the Mediterranean.It owes her today’s name to Keo from Nafpakto, a hero who conquered the island. In sources and bibliography is also reffered as Hydrousa, Keos, Keia, Cia, Cea. Due to local dialect though it is now prevalent to be called Tzia.
Arriving to the island, you shouldn’t think that it is a barren place. You will be impressed by the rich flora, the rare plant species, and the countless crops inside the Tzia. The royal oak forests, which are unique in Cyclades, create an unforgettable landscape. Moreover, many herbs, aromatic plants, and beautiful wildflowers thrive on the island. Someone can admire the lush even at the bottom of the sea. The biggest part of the island belongs on the Natura network 2000.Kea also provides a remarkable fauna and hosts a multitude of wild animals. Many species of rodents, reptiles, and birds find ideal shelter on the island.
Tzia also provides architectural wealth as there are countless traditional rural houses scattered on the island, the ‘‘kathikies’’. If you have the chance, stay in one of them and have a magical experience inside the wisdom of the traditional technical materials and colors. You shouldn’t forget to walk inside the magical alleys in Ioulida, the capital of the island.
